The establishing idea of “China meets Austria – The Chinese Culture Festival in Austria” dates back to the year of 2011, which is the glorious time of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Austria. From 8th to 10th February 2011, excellent art troupes of choir, wind music, folk music, symphony and other fields from China and Austria got together in Vienna to participate in the Concert for celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Austria initiated by Organization for Promoting World Music and Art Education and the Organization for Promoting Austrian and Chinese Relations. The holding of this grand celebration confirmed and blessed the friendship between the two countries, and also is an anticipation of a better future for them.
Dr. Heinz Fischer, President of the Republic of Austria, attached much importance to the relationship between China and Austria. With the enthusiastic response brought by the successful holding of the Concert for celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Austria, he appreciated and recognized the idea of “China meets Austria – The Chinese Culture Festival in Austria” initiated by personages in relevant circles from China and Austria, and promised to be the Honorary Guardian of the Chinese culture festival in Austria, approved together by social activists, friendly personages towards China and experts in music circle in Austria.
For a few years, the culture festival has always been devoted to diversifying the activity style by carrying out exchange activities in the field of music, cultural education, film art, photography and others through not only the stage, but also workshop of Vienna Boy’s Choir master class, visiting the teaching and research center, interschool exchange, art exhibition, screening and so on, to promote the study and growing up of the young generation and arouse the interest and resonation from both the two countries toward art culture. People, who love art and culture, showed the most original and sincerest culture together, communicated the results achieved by the two countries in art and education, made the most valuable cooperation, enriched knowledge from each other, expanded the horizon, promoted friendship and increased the understanding and recognition toward international culture on the friendly platform co-built by China and Austria.
2014 “China meets Austria – The Chinese Culture Festival in Austria” is initiated by Organization for Promoting World Music and Art Education, Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Art and Culture, the Organization for Promoting Austrian and Chinese Relations, Chorus-China of the Chinese Musicians Association, Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna and Chinese Culture Center in Europe, organized by Masters International and Unitart Media, jointly organized and greatly supported by a huge number of institutions and organizations from China and Austria. Activities include China and Austria Music Education Seminar, Chinese Film Week in Austria, “Beautiful China, Beautiful Xiamen, and Beautiful Gulangyu Island” – Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition for Public Benefit, Workshop of Vienna Boy’s Choir Master Class, Art Troupe Exchange between Chinese and Austrian Schools, Concert took place in Porsche Saal, Odeion Salzburg and the Vienna Boys’ Choir Concert Hall, Großer Saal, Concerts of “The Symphony Night” and “The Gala Night” in Wiener Musikverein. Participants said, “This festival brought us a lot. It made the children go abroad to see the world, inspired their confidence and enriched the knowledge. As for the teacher, they learned the foreign teaching ideas and methods, which play a good role in promoting the growth of children, the development of schools and the advancing of education in China.”
During this festival, Gu Gongsheng, deputy secretary-general of the Art Education Committee of Ministry of Education, Mr. Schaden, Mayor of Salzburg, Xu Xiyi, chairman of Chorus-China of the Chinese Musicians Association, delegates from Chinese Embassy in Austria, and Professor Hou Guangming, secretary of the party committee of Beijing Film Academy, attended multiple activities and expressed full support and affirmation to the culture festival.
